Job Description:

Big Cedar Lodge is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the open position of 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.  Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and 1St Assistant Superintendent, the 2nd Assistant must be able to manage and assist in the day-to-day operation of the golf course. Tasks include but are not limited to: golf course setup, pesticide application, irrigation system management, staff management, implementation of cultural practices, planning and execution of small projects, and business administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform cultural practices of all turf areas to ensure pristine condition of the golf course
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and winterization of all irrigation systems
  • Responsible application of all fertilizer and pesticides, and record keeping of applications
  • Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties
  • Consistently manage and train a crew of 15+ associates
  • Plan and lead small projects
  • Keep supervisors and colleagues promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual situations
  • Be able to lift up to 100 lbs
  • Acquire working knowledge of the golf course and facilities to respond appropriately to guest questions, as required
  • Perform other related duties as required

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Turf or Horticulture degree strongly preferred, and one to three years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Must be at least 21 years of age, have a safe driving record and be able to obtain a Missouri class E or Arkansas D with a “P” endorsement designated drivers license.  Must be able to obtain Missouri Pesticide Applicator license within 60 days of hire date.

Other Skills and Abilities:  The ability to work well with a team, to prioritize, a sense of urgency and a real concern for customer service.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  The employee will be exposed to poison ivy, oak and sumac on a regular basis, and must be able to work closely with these plants and possibly other toxic plant materials.
